Fast Locksmith dispatches mobile units to Hastings-Sunrise around the clock — from the post-war bungalows along McGill Street to the retail strips on East Hastings and the laneway infill spreading through the Renfrew pocket. One call, licensed tech, on the road immediately.
Real local detail on the neighbourhood — its streets, buildings, and what locksmith calls actually look like here.
Hastings-Sunrise runs along the northeastern shoulder of Vancouver proper, bounded roughly by Burrard Inlet to the north, Boundary Road (and Burnaby) to the east, Nanaimo Street to the west, and McGill Street fading into the rail corridor to the south. It's one of the city's most authentically working-class east-side neighbourhoods — and one of the most architecturally consistent. The dominant housing stock is the post-war bungalow and wartime house: single-storey or 1.5-storey wood-frame homes built between the 1940s and early 1960s, sitting on standard 33-foot lots along streets like Parker, Graveley, Kitchener, and William. Many of these homes still have their original hardware — knob-in-lock sets on interior doors, 30-year-old Kwikset deadbolts on the front entry, and back-door locks that haven't been changed since the house was last sold.
Running through the middle of it all is East Hastings Street, the neighbourhood's main commercial artery. Between Nanaimo and Renfrew the strip is a mix of independent shops, auto-repair garages, takeout restaurants, and smaller offices — much of it operating out of older commercial buildings with single-cylinder deadbolts, worn master key systems, and back doors that see heavy daily use. North of East Hastings, the streets slope gently toward Hastings Park and the PNE grounds, with pockets of older rental stock and a smattering of newer infill. The Sunrise area east of Renfrew adds a quieter, more residential character — larger lots, more detached homes, some modest strata townhouses along the boundary with Burnaby.
Lockouts in post-war single-family homes are the bread and butter of calls from this neighbourhood. These houses often have one primary entry point — the front door — and when that lock fails, jams, or a key goes missing, there's no alternative way in. Older Kwikset and Schlage hardware on these homes is generally pickable by a licensed technician without damage, but worn tumblers sometimes mean a rekey is the smarter follow-up rather than just a new key cut.
Landlord calls are also common here. Hastings-Sunrise has a high proportion of rental suites — basement suites carved into those post-war bungalows, and secondary suites in the laneway houses and infill duplexes that have been added to the area over the last decade. Every tenant turnover is a rekey job; landlords managing three or four properties along Penticton, Kaslo, or Slocan call us on a rotating basis. Businesses along East Hastings, particularly auto shops and small warehouses between Nanaimo and Boundary, call for commercial rekeying and the occasional lockout when staff changes mean a previous employee still has a working key.
We cover Hastings-Sunrise from multiple directions — from the Commercial Drive side via Venables and 1st Avenue, directly along East Hastings from downtown, or from the Burnaby boundary inward. On most calls, a mobile unit reaches the neighbourhood in 20–30 minutes. The PNE/Playland end of the neighbourhood, the streets near Hastings Park, and the quieter Renfrew blocks east of Nanaimo are all within our regular response window — we don't route calls away from the east side.
Every service Fast Locksmith offers in Vancouver is available right here. If you're locked out of your house on Graveley or Parker at any hour, 24/7 emergency locksmith is the fastest call to make. For the post-war bungalow on Kitchener that needs its original hardware upgraded to a modern Grade 1 deadbolt, that's a residential locksmith job. Landlords managing basement suites and laneway houses throughout the area rely on us for lock changes and rekeying between tenants. Businesses on East Hastings benefit from commercial locksmith service — master key systems, high-security cylinders, and after-hours lockouts for shops and garages. Lost your car keys in the Hastings Park parking lot or near Playland? Automotive locksmith and car key replacement are done on-site, wherever you're parked. For the newer infill townhouses and duplexes adding up along Boundary, smart lock installation is a popular upgrade — keypad and Wi-Fi deadbolts that don't require managing extra copies. We also do door repair for the swollen or misaligned frames common in this neighbourhood's older wood-frame homes, and safe services — opening, installation, and combination changes — for home and business.
