Need a locksmith on Commercial Drive? We run mobile trucks through East Van every day — heritage walk-ups on Venables, strata condos near Broadway, and every storefront, café, and bike shop in between. Call any time; someone answers.
One of Vancouver's most distinctly local corridors — from Venables Street south to Broadway, Commercial Drive mixes a century of housing stock with a dense strip of independent businesses.
Commercial Drive runs roughly north–south through East Vancouver, from Venables Street down through Grandview-Woodland to Broadway. The housing along and around the Drive is genuinely mixed: early 1900s character houses split into suites on Napier, William, and Charles streets; post-war rental walk-ups on the blocks east toward Nanaimo; and a growing band of newer strata condos and townhomes on the southern stretch near Broadway and in the adjacent Cedar Cottage pockets. It's a dense, walkable neighbourhood where most residents don't have a car but very much have a front door — and front-door problems.
A large portion of the rental stock here consists of heritage conversions: detached houses from the 1910s–1940s turned into two-, three-, or four-suite buildings. These typically have older mortise locks, separate deadbolts with aging cylinders, and entry doors that have settled out of square over decades. Rekeying these locks is one of our most common calls on the Drive — new tenants, new landlords, or lost keys with an old master key floating around the building. We carry compatible cylinders for Weiser, Kwikset, Schlage, and several discontinued keyways that still turn up in Grandview-Woodland buildings.
Newer development has added mid-rise strata condos and townhome complexes in the blocks between Commercial Drive and Lakewood Drive, especially south of Graveley and around Grandview Highway. Strata buildings come with their own lock ecology: a building master key, individual suite cylinders, parkade fobs, and sometimes a strata council that controls who cuts copies. If you're locked out of your suite, or the strata has asked you to re-core after a key handover, we coordinate that work efficiently — we can also advise on restricted keyways that prevent unauthorized duplication at the hardware store.
From the espresso bars and grocers on the core strip to the auto shops and service businesses near Venables and Hastings, Commercial Drive has one of the densest concentrations of independent small businesses in East Vancouver. Commercial locksmith calls here range from a café owner locked out before the morning rush to a retail shop needing a master key system after staff turnover. We handle commercial deadbolts, rim locks, and storefront hardware — and we can advise on commercial-grade high-security locks for businesses that have had break-in attempts.
Mobile response to Commercial Drive from our East Van coverage zone is typically in the 15–25 minute window depending on time of day. Parking on Commercial itself is tight, especially during the lunch and evening rush — our technician will confirm a nearby meetpoint or ask you to buzz them in if you're in a walk-up. We're used to the one-way streets through Grandview and the bus corridors on Broadway; this is familiar territory.
