Keys we cut and copy at your door
The machine and the blanks come to you, and every copy is tried in your lock before we leave.
We do key cutting in Vancouver at your door, not over a counter. Fast Locksmith Vancouver is mobile only, with no storefront and no walk-in hours.

► Bit keys on pre-war doors
Some pre-war front doors on the west side still take a long bit key. A bit key can't go through a duplicator. It is filed by hand to fit the wards inside that one lock.
That is slower work, priced as a key cut from the lock. It is still cheaper than replacing a sound old lock body, which matters in older homes such as those in Shaughnessy.

We come to you
A technician brings the machine to your home, office or building. Technician availability and arrival are confirmed on the call.

Cut, then tried in the lock
Each copy is cut to your original and turned in the lock with the door open, then closed. A copy that drags is recut before we pack up.
► 04 / Restricted keys
Restricted and high-security keys: who can authorize a copy
A restricted key is cut on a blank that is not sold openly. The system has a registered holder, and only that holder can approve another copy.
Who signs off
For a home, the holder is usually you, with ID and any card or paperwork that came with the lock. For a business or building, it is the owner, manager or strata.
Dealer-only blanks
Some patented blanks are only supplied through the system's authorized dealer. If yours is one of them, we tell you on the call. New cylinders are covered under high-security locks.

Strata building keys: what your strata controls
In a strata building, your suite door is yours and the shared parts belong to the strata.

When a suite key is a building key
In some towers the suite key also opens the lobby or the garbage room. If it does, it is part of the building's keying, and copies go through the strata. It comes up often in high-rise strata in the West End.

Copies that stick: a worn key or a worn lock?
A copy is only as good as the key it was cut from.
The key is worn
If your original is worn, we can often read the lock and cut to its proper depths instead of copying the wear.
The lock is worn
An old cylinder in a rental walk-up may have seen many tenancies, and nothing turns cleanly, the owner's key included. A sharper copy won't fix it, and we will say so rather than sell you three. The fix is a rekey or lock change, often at the same visit.
The door has moved
If the key turns but the bolt won't reach the strike, the door has moved. That is a job for door repair, not a new key.

Car keys are a separate service
Most car keys carry a chip that has to be programmed to the vehicle. A blade from our key machine might open the door, yet the engine still won't start.

01Do you have a shop where I can get keys cut?
No. We are mobile only, with no storefront or counter. A technician brings the key machine to your home, office or building and cuts your copies there.
02How much is a house key copy?
A standard house or suite key is $5 – $15 per copy. Mailbox, padlock and cabinet keys are $8 – $20. The total for your address is confirmed on the call.
03Can you make a key if I have no original?
Often, yes. We read the lock or cut by code, which runs $40 – $90. It takes longer than a copy, but it can save replacing a lock that still works.
04Can you copy my building fob or lobby key?
No. Fobs and lobby, parkade and common-area keys belong to your strata or property manager, so ask them for extras. We copy your own suite, house and padlock keys.
