Fig. 01 — Vancouver, BCMostly one door: yours.
Downtown work is mostly tower suites, office floors and converted lofts. We are mobile only, with no storefront, so a technician comes to the door.
A tower has two layers of locks. The suite door is yours. Everything shared belongs to the strata.
Shut out of the building itself? Start with the concierge or the after-hours line.
We check ID and proof of residence. A lease, addressed mail or your landlord confirming by phone can stand in for a licence with an old address.
Some strata set rules on suite door hardware. Check yours before you change a lock. See also our guide on condo fob copies.
Downtown suites change hands and tenants often. Nobody can tell you how many keys are out there.
A rekey makes every older key useless, and the door stays as it is. The cost is confirmed on the call.
Between tenants, a rekey is cheaper than chasing keys. We can cut a fresh set at the same visit.
If guests come and go, a keypad can replace key handovers. See smart lock installation, and check your strata bylaws first.
Two jobs we see in downtown buildings.
A keypad or card reader on your own suite door can come loose, stop reading or need replacing after staff changes. We repair or swap the unit on your door.
Base-building readers, lobby doors and elevators stay with the property manager.

Some downtown suites and rentals use a card or keypad lock instead of a plain key. We can fit, repair or replace the lock on your own suite door.
Check your strata bylaws before changing suite door hardware.

An office suite is locked at two levels too. We work on your suite door. The property manager controls the base-building doors.
Staff turnover is the usual reason to rekey an office. Many offices want one master key over several doors, covered under master key systems. The total is confirmed on the call; see our locksmith prices.
Downtown is not one kind of building. The lock work changes block by block.
Newer towers tend to have standard suite doors with a deadbolt. These are usually simple to rekey.
Heritage-era conversions can have older hardware. See Gastown for that work.
No. Lobby doors, parkade gates, elevators and building fobs belong to your strata or property manager. We don't open, copy or program them. Once you reach your suite door, we can open it.
Photo ID showing the address, or a lease, addressed mail or your landlord confirming by phone. We check ID and proof of residence before we open any home. The total is confirmed on the call.
Usually yes. You can't know who holds the previous keys. A rekey makes the old keys useless. Ask your strata first if the lock was supplied by the building.
Yes, on your own suite door, with approval from the building where it is needed. The total for an office lockout is confirmed on the call. Base-building doors stay with the property manager.
Yes. We are mobile across the City of Vancouver, including the downtown edges. Gastown and Yaletown have their own pages for the older buildings and converted lofts there.

Each area page covers the doors, buildings and locks we see in that part of the city.
